Yee Naaldlooshii: The Navajo Skinwalker
Yee naaldlooshii is Navavjo for, "with it, he goes on all fours," they are known as skinwalkers. Skinwalkers are a type of witch that posses the ability to become or appear as an animal. The term has transformed into an urban legend, depicting the skin-walker as a murderous, vile, and dangerous to all those they come in contact with. However, while the term does imply an evil-spirited witch, the Navajo terminology of a skin-walker is rooted deeply within the tribe's culture and beliefs than the urban legend associated with the term today. To understand the skin-walker, we must understand Navajo witchcraft and how their cultural relationship of good and evil influence everyday practices.
